Data sources
geopool combines public Swiss geodata with figures Aireon derives from it. This page lists what each layer and panel section is based on.
Parcels
Parcel boundaries, parcel area and the federal parcel identifier (EGRID) come from the official cadastral survey (AV) kept by the cantons.
Buildings
- Footprints come from the cadastral survey (AV).
- Volume and height come from a 3D reconstruction of each building (roofer, LoD2.2) where available. Older measurements used swisstopo swissBUILDINGS3D. Without a 3D measurement, the volume is estimated from footprint times height, or taken from the building register. The map legend marks estimated buildings with a lighter outline.
- Register data (building and dwelling details, registered volume, municipality number) comes from the Federal Register of Buildings and Dwellings (GWR).
- The Detailed 3D view streams swisstopo swissBUILDINGS3D models with real roof shapes.
Zoning and utilization
The canton's zone code and the local zone are shown for each parcel. From the zone rules and the existing buildings, Aireon estimates the current utilization, the building volume ratio, the site coverage ratio, the maximum allowed volume and floor area, and the remaining (unused) building volume. These are estimates to compare parcels, not a building permit assessment.
Noise
Road and railway noise levels in dB(A), for day and night, come from the federal sonBASE noise model and are averaged over the parcel.
Travel times and taxes
- Travel time to the nearest agglomeration center, by car and by public transport, in minutes.
- Income tax rates of the municipality for four household types (single, single parent with one child, married couple, couple with two children), in per mille and as an estimated annual amount in CHF.
Basemaps
Streets and satellite basemaps, and the swisstopo national map, served through the federal geoportal geo.admin.ch.
Canton and municipality statistics
The parcel statistics pages count the parcels of the cadastral survey (AV) per municipality and canton, group them by the municipal zone designation and add building and dwelling counts from the building register (GWR). Municipalities follow today's official numbering. These are derived figures for orientation, not official statistics of the Federal Statistical Office.
Frequently asked questions
Are geopool figures official?
Parcel boundaries, building footprints and register entries come from official Swiss datasets. Derived figures, such as utilization ratios, unused building volume or estimated volumes, are calculated by Aireon and are estimates, not a legal assessment. The municipal building regulations always decide.
Why can a building volume differ from the building register?
geopool prefers a volume measured from a 3D reconstruction of the building. The register (GWR) volume is often missing or outdated, so it is only used when no 3D measurement exists.
How current is the data?
Each dataset is refreshed on its own schedule by its publisher. geopool loads updated snapshots as they are processed, so a very recent construction or subdivision may not appear yet.
