About the canton of Graubünden

The canton of Graubünden ranks 5th of the 22 cantons with largely complete parcel data by number of parcels and has the largest total parcel area. Of its 100 municipalities with parcel data, Scuol (11’290), Chur (8’970) and Surses (7’603) have the most parcels, which together hold 12.3% of the canton's parcels.

The median parcel in the canton measures 1’110 m², larger than the Swiss median of 870 m². The canton is less built-up than Switzerland as a whole: 38.7% of its parcels have a building, against 52% nationwide. Among its municipalities with at least 500 parcels, St. Moritz has the highest share of built parcels (69.9%) and Valsot the lowest (10.6%). Muntogna da Schons has the largest median parcel (3’924 m²) and Felsberg the smallest (538 m²).

According to the building register, a building in the canton holds 1.4 dwellings on average, against 1.6 across Switzerland. Most residential buildings are single-family houses (60.1%, against 63.5% across Switzerland). Non-residential buildings account for 39.4% of all buildings.
