About the canton of Neuchâtel

The canton of Neuchâtel ranks 12th of the 22 cantons with largely complete parcel data by number of parcels. Of its 24 municipalities with parcel data, Val-de-Ruz (10’293), Neuchâtel (8’113) and La Chaux-de-Fonds (7’544) have the most parcels, which together hold 39.7% of the canton's parcels.

The median parcel in the canton measures 1’098 m², larger than the Swiss median of 870 m². The canton is about as built-up as Switzerland as a whole: 55.4% of its parcels have a building, against 52% nationwide. Among its municipalities with at least 500 parcels, Neuchâtel has the highest share of built parcels (73%) and Les Verrières the lowest (31%). Brot-Plamboz has the largest median parcel (7’701 m²) and Neuchâtel the smallest (693 m²).
