Of its 62 municipalities with parcel data, Bellinzona (26’017), Lugano (20’358) and Gambarogno (8’748) have the most parcels.

According to the building register, a building in the canton's municipalities with parcel data holds 1.4 dwellings on average, against 1.6 across Switzerland. Most residential buildings are single-family houses (68.3%, against 63.5% across Switzerland). Non-residential buildings account for 38.8% of all buildings.

Among the built parcels in the data, the newest building most often dates from 1946 to 1960 (23.8%), and on 13.8% of them it dates from 2001 or later. The median year built is 1965.
